Animal assisted interventions and training
About me
Hello, I’m Jackie Dean, founder of Dorset Animal Pathways.Animals have always been a huge part of my life.
Over the years I’ve fostered more than 30 dogs, owned many horses and more recently trained dogs of all ages and abilities, I have developed a deep understanding of how meaningful relationships with animals can positively improve people’s wellbeing, confidence and personal growth and my mission is to share this experience with others.
I am an Animal Assisted Support facilitator / Practitioner of both dogs and horses, specialising in trauma-informed, person-centred practice. My work combines evidence-informed approaches with the unique ability of animals to create safe, calm and engaging environments where people can learn, grow and reconnect with themselves, alongside my wonderful animal team, I support children, young people and adults through tailored sessions that encourage confidence, emotional regulation, communication, self-awareness and resilience.
No two people are the same, so no two sessions are the same. Every experience is carefully adapted to meet the individual’s needs, interests and goals, creating opportunities for meaningful progress at their own pace. At Dorset Animal Pathways, I believe animals don’t “fix” people—they simply help create an environment where people feel safe enough to discover their strengths.

What is Animal Assisted Support (AAS)?
Animal Assisted Support (AAS) and Animal Assisted Learning (AAL) are structured, purposeful approaches that involve working alongside animals to support wellbeing, learning and personal development.
I will often use specific resources that are age and learner appropriate which clients are able to take home.
Animals have an incredible ability to help people feel calm, accepted and present in the moment. Their non-judgemental nature can make it easier to build trust, develop confidence and explore new skills.
Sessions are designed around each individual or group and may support:
● Emotional wellbeing
● Confidence and self-esteem
● Communication skills
● Emotional regulation
● Building healthy relationships
● Problem solving
● Resilience
● Teamwork
● Motivation
● Personal development
● Learning through practical experiences
● Mindfulness and connection with nature
